Melocactus conoideus, commonly known as the Cone-like Turk's Head Cactus, is a cactus species native to Bahia in eastern Brazil. This cactus is characterized by its distinctive, conical shape, which gives it its name. The stem is strongly depressed to hemispherical or conical, typically reaching about 10 cm in height and 17 cm in diameter. The plant has 11 to 15 low and rounded ribs, with small cushion-like areoles that are spaced up to 15 mm apart. The central spine of Melocactus conoideus is straight to slightly recurved. The radial spines are brown, overlaid with grey, and 8-11 spines are straight to slightly curved at the tips. The cephalium, which is the flowering structure of the cactus, is fairly short, usually less than 3 cm high and 7.5 cm in diameter, with reddish bristles and abundant white wool.

Light: This cactus prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. It requires bright light to develop its vibrant coloration.

Watering: Melocactus conoideus is drought-tolerant and should be watered sparingly. Water during the growing season (spring and summer), watering thoroughly and letting the soil dry out in between watering, but in winter, it should be kept relatively dry to prevent root rot.

Soil: A well-draining cactus potting mix is ideal. You can augment the mix with sand or perlite to improve drainage. Temperature: This cactus prefers warm temperatures, ideally between 68°F and 86°F (20°C and 30°C). It is not frost-tolerant, so if grown outdoors in temperate regions, it should be brought indoors during cold weather.
