Echinocereus viereckii subsp morricalii
$4.99
Echinocereus viereckii subsp. morricalii is a standout clustering cactus prized for its smooth, nearly spineless stems and oversized magenta blooms. Native to Nuevo León, Mexico, this handsome selection forms dense clumps of bright green stems with 6 to 7 ribs, often taking on purple tones in strong light. In spring, mature plants reward growers with large, vivid flowers that create a dramatic display in pots, rock gardens, and xeric collections. Its compact, sculptural habit and bold color make it an excellent choice for collectors looking for a showy cactus with a softer look than more heavily armed species.
Care: Grow in bright light to full sun, introducing stronger sun gradually to avoid scorch. Use a very fast-draining cactus mix with extra mineral material such as pumice, coarse sand, or perlite. Water thoroughly during active growth only when the soil has dried completely, then reduce watering sharply in fall and keep almost dry in winter. Good airflow and dry roots are essential, as this plant is sensitive to rot in damp soil. Feed lightly during spring and summer with a low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer. Protect from prolonged freezing.
