Parodia werneri — Small Cactus, Spectacular Blooms

Add a little sculptural charm to your plant collection with Parodia werneri, also known as Notocactus uebelmannianus. This compact cactus features a rounded, deep-green body, beautifully defined ribs, and delicate-looking pale spines. Mature plants can put on an eye-catching display of large, vivid pink to magenta flowers, creating a striking contrast against the green stem. Its slow-growing habit makes it a lovely choice for a bright windowsill or a smaller cactus collection.

Care Instructions

·       Light: Place in bright, filtered light or a spot with gentle morning sun. Provide shade from intense midday and afternoon sun, and introduce stronger light gradually to prevent sunburn.

·       Water: During spring and summer, water thoroughly when the soil has dried, allowing excess water to drain away. Empty the saucer and never leave the pot standing in water. Adjust watering to the soil’s condition rather than a fixed schedule.

·       Soil and pot: Use a fast-draining cactus mix and a pot with drainage holes. Add pumice or perlite if the mix holds moisture for too long.

·       Winter care: Reduce watering substantially as growth slows, especially in cool conditions. Keep the plant in a bright, frost-free location and avoid cold, wet soil.

·       Feeding: Apply a cactus fertilizer during active growth, following the product’s label directions. Do not fertilize during winter dormancy.
